Using Angry IP Scanner to scan IP addresses and hosts is really easy. To start off, download Angry IP Scanner and install it like any other Windows software.
Once installed, open the application by searching for it in the Start Menu. As you can see, the home screen of the application is pretty simple and straightforward. By default, Angry IP scanner will enter your local IP address range and your computer name as the hostname.
The good thing about Angry IP Scanner is that it lets you scan IP addresses in three different ways. They are, the range you specified, a random IP address or a list of IP addresses from a text file. As you can see from the above image, the Angry IP Scanner will only include default fetchers like Ping, Hostname, and Ports. However, you can add more fetchers to get and see more information about an IP address. To do that, select “Tools > Fetchers.”
In this window, you will see all the current fetchers on the left pane and all the available fetchers in the right pane. To add a fetcher, select the fetcher on the right pane and then click on the button that looks like “Less than” sign. In my case, I’ve added new fetchers like MAC address, NetBIOS info, Filtered ports, and the Web detects.
Moreover, Angry IP Scanner will only tell whether the ports are open or not. It will not list the individual ports that are open. So, if you want to do a port scan, then you need to configure the application. To do that, simply navigate to “Tools” and then select the option “Preferences.”
Here, navigate to the “Ports” tab and enter the ports you want to scan in the “Ports Selection” field. As you can see, I’m scanning for port 80 and port 443. If you want to scan a range of ports, then enter the port range like “1-1000.” After you have entered the port number, click on OK to save the changes.

Once you are done configuring the Angry IP Scanner, you can continue to scan. To start off, set the scan mode to “IP Range,” enter the IP address range in the “IP address” fields and then click on the button “Start.” For instance, I’ve entered an IP range that is known to have live devices connected to it.
Depending on the number of addresses in the range, it may take some time to complete. Once completed, the application will show you a summary of the scan. The summary includes the number of hosts that are alive and the number of hosts that have open ports. Just click on the button “Close” to continue.
Once you close the summary window, you will see the list of all the IP address. You can also see additional details in different “fetcher” columns. In case you are wondering, here’s what the colored dots next to each IP address mean.

You can also easily copy all the details of an IP address. To do that, right-click on the IP address and select the option “Copy details.” This action will copy the information from all the fetchers. Alternatively, you can also select the IP and press Ctrl + C.
Apart from copying the details of an IP address, you can also perform a range of different activities on the entries. You can open an IP address in the web browser, do an FTP, trace routing, etc. For instance, if you want to traceroute an IP address, simply right-click on the target IP address. After that, select the option Open and click on Traceroute.
Once you are done scanning an IP address or the IP address range, you can save the scan results. To do that, select the option Scan from the menu bar. From the drop down click on “Export All”.
Here, enter the name of the file, select the destination and then click on the button “Save.” This action will save the file as a text file.
Now, if you are going to scan this IP address or range in future, then you can should add it to your favorites. This eliminates the need to re-enter the IP addresses each and every time. *Reset NVRAM. To do this, shut down or restart your Mac, switch it back on and immediately press these four keys together for at least 20 seconds: Option, Command, P, and R. It should look as though your Mac has started again; if it has, release the keys when you hear the second startup chime. Hopefully, the hard drive has shown up now.
*Check Apple’s Disk Utility to see if an external drive is showing up. Disk Utility is within System Preferences, or you can find it using Spotlight. If it is visible, then click the option to Mount, which should make it visible on the desktop and in the External Drives option in the Finder menu.

Alternative ways to recover data from an external hard drive
Reset the System Management Controller (SMC) if your Mac shuts down when you plug in an external hard drive. Then use a different port to connect the external hard drive. If you’ve got a battery that you can’t remove:

Hybrid-DSD is a file format which looks to the world exactly like an Apple Lossless (ALAC) PCM file with an .mp4 extension, and functions exactly like one. ’Hybrid-DSD’ files can be loaded into iTunes, or into any other player which supports the Apple Lossless format, and will play music like normal. A ’Hybrid-DSD’ file contains a PCM copy of the DSD original. However, it also contains the original DSD data, encoded within the file in such a way that iTunes and other players won’t attempt to read it. If BitPerfect is asked to play this file, it is able to read both the PCM and the DSD versions. If your DAC supports DSD, then BitPerfect will automatically play the DSD version, otherwise it will automatically play the PCM version (inside that SAME file!).Creating Hybrid-DSD files using DSD Master
Open the DSD Master app and select Hybrid-DSD as the output file. The sampling rate can be anything you want, note that higher rates will take longer to create. *When creating Hybrid-DSD files, I generally urge caution in selecting “Automatically Add to iTunes”. Depending on how you have your iTunes Library set up, this may result in the Hybrid-DSD files being copied to the iTunes Media Library. Since Hybrid-DSD files can be pretty huge (you can think of them as a DSF file and a ALAC file smushed together) this can very quickly consume a lot of disk space. So, if that is how your iTunes Media Library is configured, you need to be diligent in deleting the original Hybrid-DSD files after importing them into iTunes (after checking your iTunes Media Library first to make sure the import was actually completed).
*When selecting the PCM sample rate in a Hybrid-DSD file, it is also worth bearing in mind that the larger sample rates will produce correspondingly larger files. A DSD64 album converted to Hybrid-DSD format with the PCM content set to 176.4kHz (my own preferred setting) can often exceed 5GB!
*I strongly recommend PCM sample rates within the 44.1kHz family. These will sound better because the conversion to a 48kHz family sample rate involves an additional SRC step. Of course, none of this matters when listening to the DSD content, but you might be playing the PCM data via a non-DSD Dac, and still want the best sound possible ;)Adding Hybrid-DSD files to your iTunes library and playing them as DSD on a DSD-capable DAC
Make sure iTunes is going to send the audio to your DSD-capable DAC. Open the Audio Output Device menu. Select your DSD-capable DAC from the list. Find the BitPerfect preferences pane in your menubar, it will look like this:
In the preferences window, select the DSD tab, and then tick the enable DSD checkbox. You will be presented with a warning. It will look like this:
Your device (in this example a Chord Mojo) will show up in the device list.Adding the Hybrid-DSD files to your iTunes library, if not done so already. And you are all set to Play DSD from iTunes!
In the BitPerfect app in the menubar, you can monitor at which resolution your iTunes is playing back.NOTE
**IF** you have set up your iTunes to “Copy files to iTunes Media folder when adding to library”, then after you have created your Hybrid-DSD files in whichever folder you placed them (let’s call it ‘folder X’), iTunes will copy them to the iTunes Media folder. What you must then do is delete them from ‘folder X’ … unless of course you have a specific desire to maintain two copies of those Hybrid-DSD files.
